Sat, March 08, 2008, 1:00-900 Great American Bake Sale Supporting: Share Our Strength WE RAISED $860!
Share Our Strength's Great American Bake Sale is a national campaign where participants host their own bake sale anywhere in the US and send their proceeds to Share Our Strength to help organizations in their community end childhood hunger. Funds raised are granted to local organizations that work to increase participation by low-income children in summer and after-school feeding programs, and to support nutrition education programs for low-income families. Since 2003, the campaign has raised over $3 million and engaged more than 1 million people in baking, selling or buying goods. Our Activities Frozen Bake Sale: The cookie dough is shaped into a log, and is ready to slice and bake. Each log has about 2-3 dozen cookies. Suggested donation per cookie log is $10. Virtual Bake Sale Bake Sale: A carryout box that you fill with whatever homemade baked goods that you like – sweet and savory. The box measures approximately 8" x 5.5" x 2.5" and will hold about 2 dozen cookies or 4-6 slices of something like cheesecake. The box looks like this. Suggested donation per box is $10. Social: All-you-can-eat baked goods and milk, coffee, tea, punch, chilled lattes, wine, etc. You will also receive a carryout box to fill up and take with you. Suggested donation to attend the social is $20. Honor Roll Many thanks to our family and friends who supported our Benefit Party with their donations to Share Our Strength.

Tax Deductable-ness From the Share Our Strength Site:Are the funds raised at my Great American Bake Sale tax-deductible? No, the purchase of baked goods is not a tax-deductible contribution. Generally, the individuals buying baked goods at your Great American Bake Sale are receiving a benefit equal to the contribution. Internal Revenue Service Publication 526 states, "If you receive a benefit as a result of making a contribution to a qualified organization, you can deduct only the amount of your contribution that is more than the value of the benefit you receive." Yes: If you make a direct financial donation for which you do not receive any goods in return, this is tax deductable. To do this, you can go to our Virtual Bake Sale, or we can take your donation (check, please) and information and submit it to Share Our Strength.
Thanks so much for your interest and support!
If you have any questions, please email Tamiza at bastet44@usa.net or call 310-561-6501. Suggested donation for each event is $20. |
